Must visit for over thirties in Leeds

The Black Bull, 15 Commercial Street, Rothwell, Leeds

For those who enjoy a proper pub with no frills and more importantly no aggro!

This pub is an old building, which has been tastefully remodelled. It has an open plan bar area, serving a wide range of drinks and an attractive beer garden at the rear festooned with colourful hanging baskets in Spring and.Summer. They pride themselves on having a no drugs, no mugs, no thugs policy, which has created a light friendly atmosphere. Particularly impressive is the sign stipulating “ Bad language will not be tolerated” and it isn’t, even more refreshing! Espescially as the clientele comprises a very mixed crowd, sometimes including groups of younger drinkers.

There is a popular quiz on a Wednesday and a big screen showing Sky Sport but this is not intrusive as there are plenty of places to sit out of sight. Pegotty’s fish shop is opposite for a tasty after tipples treat at teatime (don’t you just love it when you can alliterate like that?!) as they don’t serve food. However a selection of real, well kept, hand pulled ales such as Ossett Exelcsior, Adnams Southwold bitter and Tetley bitter plus a great, relaxed but busy atmosphere more than compensates for this.

Highly recommended!
